You will come to the United States through the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program. The purpose of the Exchange Visitor Program is for participants to experience U.S. society and culture, as well as engage with and educate their U.S. host community about their own culture.
As an exchange visitor here at Illinois State University, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the American classroom, meet and interact with campus and local community members, and participate in a variety of cross-cultural activities. Program activities that will be available to you during your time on exchange will include but are not limited to:
- International House trips: Travel to local areas of interest including Chicago and St. Louis to experience American culture and connect with other international students.
- International Gala Night: A night of international food, music, and presentations hosted by Illinois State University’s various international student organizations.
- International Fair: Cultural/ethnic student organizations on campus are showcased through activities, food, and performances from different countries and regions in this daylong event.
- International Education Week: A week-long celebration that highlights the benefits of international education and global exchange. The event features presentations, open houses, and opportunities to connect with international and cultural student organizations.
- Redbird Life: This student involvement portal will allow you to easily explore Registered Student Organizations, find upcoming campus-wide events, and participate in volunteer projects.
