University collaboration
Project Nest
Project Nest, a university-wide Career Services initiative, captures, analyzes, and reports career and graduate school destination data of graduates. This information is utilized in the development of Illinois State University’s Metrics of Excellence and to create an interactive dashboard for internal and external stakeholders to consume first-destination data by academic program, college, and the overall university.
(data still being collected at the time of this report)
Office of Alumni Engagement
Alumni Engagement collaborated with Career Services to obtain Project Nest first-destination information from students by adding the survey link to their “Top Ten Things New Alumni Should Know & Other Tips” publication and by distributing a key chain to graduating students at commencement with the Project Nest QR code.
College of Education
Career Services collaborates with the College of Education to host the Education Career Fair each semester and to coordinate two other programs: InstaCareer for Education Majors held in the fall and Hiring Tips for Education Majors held in the spring. Both connect students with school district representatives for job-search strategies. Topics included first impressions, researching employers, professional dress, pitching oneself to employers, and how to stay connected.
Office of International Engagement
The International Student Career Series provides international students guidelines in various professional areas to assist with their career development. Topics included career and job search resources, career strategies for landing a job in the United States from alumni who were international students while attending the University, and advice from a local immigration attorney.
University College
Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) 128: Thriving in College, Career and Beyond is a three-hour, for-credit course and collaboration between Career Services and University College. The course encourages academic and student success by assisting in the transition to college and supports the foundation that aids in the retention of students at Illinois State.
